Why Don’t The New Orleans Saints Give Greg Paulus a Contract Now?
Back in April 2009, the Green Bay Packers offered Greg Paulus a tryout with the team.
Then on May 14, 2009, Paulus announced that he would play college football for the Syracuse Orange. He played decent, throwing for 2,025 yards with 13 touchdowns. and 14 interceptions.
Besides a college quarterback rating of over 132, if it were an NFL quarterback rating, it would be a 82.9 rating with 67 percent of his passes completed.
After completing the year of college, the 6’1″ 180-pounder was offered a tryout by the New Orleans Saints back in May. A contract was never offered.
Now Paulus will be given another shot as he was invited to the Saints’ mini-camp about a week ago.
“He’s a smart player, obviously going to Duke,” tight end Jimmy Graham told the Associated Press. “He hasn’t necessarily had as much time as the rest of us with the offense, but he catches on quick and is definitely a good football player. Anybody that gets him, or if he stays here, has a smart quarterback.”
I really hope the Saints offer him a contract. Actually, once it all goes down, the Saints should just sign him to a contract. Just give him one already.
How about right now?
You’re never going to see someone who has almost as natural talent in football and basketball than Greg Paulus does.
He played great in college with the Duke Blue Devils and showed he can play some football, too, when he played with the Orange.
“All I’ve heard is great things about Greg,” Drew Brees said. “Had he had three more years of college football, who knows what the possibilities are? From everyone I talk to, it seems like this guy has a lot of great leadership abilities and some natural talent.
“Unfortunately in this league, coming in like he has, with the nature of the position, you get so few opportunities, so you hope that somebody can stick with you,” Brees said. “It might be here. It might not be here. But I think if he can get a chance … who knows?
Paulus used his fifth year of eligibility in college football.
I hope the Saints don’t deny him a second time around. He was the Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year back in the year of 2005. The Saints could use an excellent quarterback in Paulus.
Right now, I just want New Orleans to give him a contract.
He has a bright future ahead of him and has a lot of talent.
The Saints could use that talent.
Maybe he could be Drew Brees’ heir, you never know.
What do you guys think?
