Sports Report Exclusive: My Interview with Scottie Cordier

March 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Scottie Cordier is the cornerback for the Cal Poly Mustangs football team. He just turned 21 years old a month ago and looks to shine next year as a Mustang.

The 5′8″ speedy player has been dominant throughout his career. After being my friend on Facebook, I asked to interview him. Luckily for me, he accepted. Here it is:

1) How long have you been playing football?

I have been playing for about 11 years now.

2) Who is your best friend on the team?

I have a couple of best friends on the team. It’s a group of us: William, Jono, Andrew, Erick, and B-Will.

3) Do you think you’ll have a shot at the NFL?

Not really. My size hurts me. Not too many 5′8″ players in the NFL.

4) Who is your favorite NFL player?

I don’t really have a favorite player. I like plenty of players but I don’t really watch the NFL enough to have a favorite player.

5) How do you feel about your former teammate, Ramses Barden, going into the NFL?

He deserves the opportunity. He had a great career at Poly and he should be able to show his talent in the NFL. I believe he is going to have a great NFL career as well.

As long as his work ethic stays the same (like I know it will), I don’t see why he can’t be a Pro Bowl player.

6) If you make it to the NFL, what team would you like to be on?

I would love to play for the Niners. That’s my favorite team and its the city next to Oakland (where I’m from).

7) Who is the toughest player you have tackled?

The running back from North Dakota State. Tyler Rohl. He was a big, strong, physical back. I got him down.

8) In practice, do you ever had to guard the 6′6″ Ramses Barden?

Yeah, I went against Rams plenty of times. I don’t remember him catching too many balls on me. They really didn’t throw him the ball when I was guarding him. We run the ball a lot.

9) What is the toughest team you’ve faced?

Weber State last year in the playoffs. They came ready to play, while we weren’t. On both sides of the ball, they played hard and well. We had no answer for Weber.

10) Any before-meal snacks?

I just eat. I don’t have any snacks.

11) What do you do before a game?

I just relax on the field. I play catch sometimes but I just listen to the music and be happy. I’m just thankful I get to play college football.

12) So…how’s Cal Poly going for you?

Poly is good. I have fun with my teammates and I’m doing something I love. School is good and I’m just happy I am here.

Good luck, Scottie, and have a great football career and I really hope you have a shot at the NFL!
